Ninety-seven percent of students in the DMACC Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) and Practical Nursing programs have passed their National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for the second quarter of 2024, which is for April, May and June, the college announced this week.

Seventy-four of the 76 DMACC ADN students who took the exam in the second quarter passed the exam on their first try, a 97.4% success rate. In addition, both Practical Nursing students who took the exam in the second quarter successfully passed it the first attempt.

“The hard work, dedication and commitment to student success across the district is shown in the outcomes of our graduates!,” said DMACC Director of Nursing Education Dr. Natalia Thilges. “These newly licensed nurses will make a tremendous impact to the growing nursing demands.”

The NCLEX is a nationwide examination for the licensing of nurses in the U.S., Canada and Australia since 1982, 2015 and 2020, respectively. There are two types: the NCLEX-RN and the NCLEX-PN. After graduating from a school of nursing, one takes the NCLEX exam to receive a nursing license.

“This nearly 100% pass rate for our nursing graduates demonstrates the quality of instruction and excellence of DMACC’s nursing program,” said Dr. Jeanie McCarville, executive academic dean of the Health and Public Services Department. “It also sets us apart from many other institutions. As a result of our successful program, DMACC nursing graduates are in high demand. Nursing is a very rewarding career with many paths to serve our communities.”

More than 400 students have enrolled in DMACC’s nursing program for the fall. The program operates on five DMACC campuses, and there are still nursing seats available at the Carroll Campus, with a standby list for other DMACC locations. Classes start on Aug. 21.
