Mike Daniel Samora, 35, of Loveland, Colorado, was arrested Wednesday on a charge of felon in possession of a firearm.

A Colorado felon prohibited from possessing firearms in Iowa was arrested on U.S. Interstate 80 Wednesday with guns and ammo in his SUV.

Mike Daniel Samora, 35, of 2115 Diana Dr., Loveland, Colorado, was charged with dominion/control of firearm/offensive weapon by a felon.

The incident began about noon Wednesday on the eastbound U.S. Interstate 80 near the 103 mile marker, where an Iowa State Patrol Trooper initiated a traffic stop on a 2012 GMC
Acadia, driven by Samora.

A probable-cause search of the vehicle was conducted after a patrol K9 conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle and indicated for the odor of narcotics.

The search disclosed a loaded 9 mm handgun in the vehicle’s center console and a loaded .38 special revolver behind the driver’s seat. Ammunition for both weapons was found “in various places in the vehicle,” according to court records.

Samora was held in the Dallas County Jail prior to posting a $5,000 cash-only bond. He is scheduled for a hearing Aug. 12 in Dallas County District Court.

Samora was convicted of a felony in Larimer County, Arizona, in 2007, according to court records.
