Perry man allegedly assaults mother, brother Sunday

Jose Alfredo Sanchez, 33, of Perry was arrested Sunday on charges of domestic abuse assault, domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness and interference with official acts.

A Perry man allegedly assaulted his mother and brother in the family home Sunday afternoon.

Jose Alfredo Sanchez, 33, of 2609 Otley Ave., Perry, was charged with domestic abuse assault, domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness and interference with official acts.

The incident began about 12:45 p.m. Sunday in the 2600 block of Otley Avenue, where officers of the Perry Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The officers determined that Sanchez allegedly assaulted his mother when he “grabbed her by the shoulders and began pushing and pulling her,” according to court records.

When his brother tried to intervene, Sanchez allegedly “grabbed him around the neck with his hands” and “struck the victim in the left cheek with his fist,” according to court records.

The officers observed on the victim “red marks on his neck, a large, purple, swollen cheek and some scratch marks on the right side of his cheek,” according to court records.

When officers made contact with Sanchez, he allegedly “began resisting having handcuffs placed on him,” and the officers “had to physically place his hands behind his back,” according to court records. He also “refused to put his leg in so the door could be shut” on the patrol vehicle.

Sanchez is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Aug. 29 in Dallas County District Court.

Sanchez was convicted of assault with intent to inflict serious injury in 2012 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of assault causing bodily injury or mental illness in 2015 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness in 2020 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of interference with official acts in 2020 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of first-degree harassment in 2022 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of assault on persons in certain occupations in 2023 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of first-degree harassment in 2023 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of first-degree harassment in 2024 in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
