Callie Keahaunani Van Langen, 24, of Des Moines was arrested Thursday on charges of eluding-more than 25 mph over limit, first-offense OWI, first-offense possession of a controlled substance, second-offense possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding, failure to obey a traffic control device, no registration and driving while suspended.

A Des Moines woman was arrested with meth and mushrooms early Thursday after failing to outrun law enforcement in a high-speed pursuit along Hickman Road.

Callie Keahaunani Van Langen, 24, of 1709 S.E. First St., Des Moines, was charged with eluding-more than 25 mph over limit, first-offense OWI, first-offense possession of a controlled substance, second-offense possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, speeding, failure to obey a traffic control device, no registration and driving while suspended.

The incident began about 1 a.m. Thursday in the 15300 block of Hickman Road in Urbandale, where an officer of the Urbandale Police Department observed a 2003 Honda Pilot traveling westbound with expired tags.

The officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the Van Langen, operating the Pilot, “began to quickly accelerate away,” according to court records.

Van Langen’s vehicle reached an “observed speed of 115 mph” while fleeing, including running two red lights on Hickman Road and “driving in and out of ditches and losing control, spinning 180 degrees before getting turned around and continuing to run,” according to court records.

With both front tires flat, Van Langen “pulled into a random house,” where she was “ordered out of the vehicle at gunpoint and placed into handcuffs,” according to court records.

A search of the vehicle disclosed “a clear baggie of a white, crystalline substance, a methamphetamine pipe and psilocybin mushrooms,” according to court records.

Van Langen presented with “sluggish response to commands, unstable gait and lack of awareness,” so an OWI investigation was conducted and an “OWI blood draw search warrant” was approved by a Dallas County Magistrate.

Van Langen is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $7,000 cash or surety bond. She is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Sept. 10 in Dallas County District Court.
