The Perry Police Department investigated a potentially threatening video posted to Tiktok Tuesday night after community members expressed concern the video might be targeting the Perry High School and Perry Middle School.
Police determined the video posed no threat.
In a statement issued about 10 p.m. Tuesday, the police department said it reacted to the video in concert with other law enforcement agencies, school officials and Safe and Sound officials.
According to the Perry Police Department, “a Tiktok video was discovered, and it reflects a list of ‘targeted’ schools originating from Georgia that were identified to receive services for students through Title 1.”
Title I is a federal program that provides funding to schools with high percentages of students from low-income families.
The video “did not in any way reflect or have anything to do with school shootings,” and the “threat was deemed not credible,” according to the Perry Police Department statement.
The statement said officers will continue to maintain a visible presence in all Perry schools.
“Officers, school officials and state agencies will continue to make the safety of our schools, students and teachers a priority,” the statement said. “Reports like these are not taken lightly and will always be investigated fully.”
