Child endangerment charges for West Des Moines man with pot in house

Alexander Gerald Legrand, 24, of West Des Moines was arrested Sunday on charges of two counts of child endangerment.

A West Des Moines man was arrested early Sunday after allegedly endangering two children who were “in close proximity” to marijuana and drug paraphernalia, according to court records.

Alexander Gerald Legrand, 24, of 6201 E. P. True Parkway, West Des Moines, was charged with two counts of child endangerment.

The incident began about 2 a.m. Sunday in the 6200 block of E. P. True Parkway, where officers of the West Des Moines Police Department responded to a report of a suicidal person.

As the officers approached the residence, they allegedly observed Legrand and one of the victims “in the kitchen of the residence, with a marijuana grinder containing green residue sitting in plain view,” according to court records.

A search of the residence disclosed “more marijuana and drug paraphernalia that was concealed in a kitchen cabinet,” according to court records.

In addition, an “infant victim who was asleep in the back bedroom,” according to court records.

Legrand is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Sept. 25 in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
