The Perry Water Works will begin its annual flushing of Perry’s fire hydrants on Monday, Oct. 7, the department announced Friday. The Perry Water Woks aims to flush the whole system over about three weeks.
The project will be very visible and might affect local traffic and residential water pressure. Residents are reminded to follow this advice:
- If you see a hydrant running, try to find an alternative route if possible.
- You might notice low water pressure that should return to normal pressure within 30 minutes.
- If you notice discolored water, let your faucet run continuously for five minutes. If the water is still discolored, then call the Perry Water Works at 515-465-2562.
- Refrain from washing laundry while you have low pressure or if you have discolored water.
The purpose of citywide flushing is to clean out the water mains and to ensure the hydrants are in good working order in case of an emergency.
