Perry Mayor Dirk Cavanaugh told the Perry City Council Monday that negotiations are proceeding positively with a new occupant of the former Tyson Fresh Meats plant on Perry’s west side.
“We did have a meeting with the company that’s negotiating with Tyson for the plant,” Cavanaugh told the council. “We had a good conversation with them. I can’t go much further than that, but we’re optimistic and hopeful that it will happen out there.”
The factory has been idle since June, when the Tyson operations ceased. Tyson Foods employed about 1,300 workers in Perry prior to closing, which put a period to more than 60 years of pork processing in Perry.
