A Corning, Iowa, woman was arrested for assault and drunk driving Tuesday after allegedly struggling with an Iowa State Trooper and a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff.
Amanda Lea Jackson, 39, of 202 Seventh St., Corning, was charged with third or subsequent offense OWI, assault on persons in certain occupations, interference with official acts, stopping on the paved part of highway and driving without a license.
The incident began about 12:45 p.m. Tuesday in the eastbound lanes of Iowa Highway 141 near the 133 mile marker, where an Iowa State Patrol Trooper responded to a report of an erratic driver.
The trooper found Jackson in a 2011 Chevrolet Equinox that was “stopped in the travel portion of Highway 141,” and she was “throwing objects from her vehicle into the median” and “exposing herself to passing motorists,” according to court records.
The trooper “attempted to handcuff” Jackson in order “to keep her from running into traffic,” according to court records. Jackson resisted the “handcuffing efforts,” but the trooper “was able to get them on her wrists behind her back.”
The trooper, now assisted by a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff, tried to get Jackson into a patrol vehicle, but she “slipped out of a handcuff, flipped over and kicked” the trooper “in the groin,” according to court records.
Jackson was eventually handcuffed, shackled by the feet and placed in the patrol vehicle.
A search of the Equinox disclosed an empty “Fireball shooter bottle,” according to court records.
Jackson is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Nov. 8 in Dallas County District Court.
Jackson has two prior convictions for drunk driving in Colorado.
