ANKENY, Iowa — The Des Moines Area Community College, one of the top-ranked two-year colleges in the U.S., has been named to the Military Times 2024 “Best For Vets: Colleges” list, the school announced Tuesday.

The listing recognizes DMACC’s “ongoing commitment to supporting military service members and veterans in their educational journeys,” the school said in a press release.

A total of 304 schools were featured on this year’s “Best for Vets: Colleges” list, which is the largest and most comprehensive annual ranking of the top colleges and universities for members of the military community.

“DMACC has always played an important role helping our nation’s military service members and veterans achieve their educational goals,” said DMACC President Rob Denson. “We greatly appreciate the sacrifice these individuals have made for our country and communities. We strive to honor their service and commitment through our dedicated services for veterans.”

DMACC currently has 363 students with veteran status, which includes 72 active-duty soldiers, 189 veterans and 102 spouses or dependents of service members.

Each year, Military Times surveys colleges and universities nationwide to evaluate their veteran-focused programs. These survey responses, along with public data sourced from the Department of Education and Department of Veterans Affairs, undergo a rigorous analysis by the Military Times data team to produce the rankings.

DMACC, one of seven Iowa schools to be included on this year’s list, was ranked 237th in the “Best For Vets: Colleges” list. Other Iowa schools included Hawkeye Community College (ranked 127th), Upper Iowa University (238th), the University of Northern Iowa (243rd), Iowa State University (244th), the Palmer College of Chiropractic (291st) and Loras College (302nd).
