A Perry man was arrested Wednesday for interference with official acts after he allegedly tried to elude law enforcement on foot by dashing out the door of the Perry Police Department at 908 Willis Ave.

Wesley Allen Jenkins, 34, of 2620 McKinley St., Perry, was charged with interference with official acts, second-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia and on Dallas County warrants for failure to appear on original charges of second-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The incident began about 11 a.m. Wednesday in the 900 block of Willis Avenue, where an officer with the Perry Police Department and a Dallas County Deputy Sheriff attempted to serve Jenkins with two Dallas County arrest warrants.

According to court records, the law enforcement officers informed Jenkins of the arrest warrants and asked him “to step into the lobby” of the Perry Police Department.

An officer “held the door open for” Jenkins “to step into the lobby, and at this moment” Jenkins allegedly “ran across the lobby through the exterior door and attempted to close” the deputy “in the door.”

The deputy “was able to get through the door, catch” Jenkins and “assist him to the ground just outside of the police department,” according to court records.

“Once on the ground,” Jenkins allegedly “continued to resist,” but he was “eventually placed in handcuffs behind his back,” according to court records.

A search of Jenkins’ person disclosed “four cartridges” of THC wax and “two clear baggies containing crystalline/white residue” that field tested positive for methamphetamine, according to court records.

Jenkins was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,600 cash or surety bond in advance of an initial appearance in Dallas County District Court.

Jenkins was arrested in Perry earlier this month on charges of second-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. The case is pending in Dallas County District Court. He was arrested in Denison in December 2024 on charges of domestic abuse assault-impeding flow of air/blood, obstruction of emergency communications and child endangerment. The case is pending in Crawford County District Court. He was arrested in October 2024 on a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia. The case is pending in Crawford County District Court. He was convicted of first-offense possession of a controlled substance-marijuana in January 2024 in Guthrie County District Court.
