The National Weather Service office on Johnston has issued a winter storm warning that will take effect at midnight Tuesday night and last until midnight Wednesday night. Snow is expected to begin about midnight over western Iowa and spread into central and eastern Iowa after midnight.
While snow is expected statewide, the highest snow accumulations will be over portions of central and southern Iowa, with 5 to 8 inches expected, the NWS said.
Snow-covered and slick roads are expected to make for hazardous travel. Snow rates will generally range from one-quarter to three-quarters of an inch per hour. Visibility will be reduced in falling snow, and blowing snow will also create minor to moderate impacts. The snow will taper off from west to east late Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday evening.
