Perry schools to start two hours late Tuesday morning

The Perry schools will have a two-hour late start on Tuesday, Feb. 18, the Perry Community School District announced Monday evening.

The will be no morning preschool, Wicks said, and PACES will begin at 8 a.m.

St. Patrick Catholic School will also start two hours late, the school announced. There will be no before-school care, and breakfast will not be served.

The DMACC Perry VanKirk Career Academy will open at 10 a.m. Tuesday, the college said.

The National Weather Service office in Johnston has issued a cold weather advisory in effect until noon Tuesday for the Perry area and much of the state, with wind chill temperatures of 30 to 40 below zero expected.

The dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as few as 10 minutes. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat and gloves when venturing outside, the NWS said.
