A Dawson man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly pushed his wife to the ground and struck her in the face.
Edgar Henry Benedict, 61, of 302 E. Fourth St., Dawson, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness.
The incident began about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday at a residence in the 300 block of E. Fourth Street, where Dallas County Deputy Sheriffs responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.
The deputies made contact with the victim, who told the deputies that Benedict allegedly “pushed the victim into a chair and struck her in the mouth with his elbow, causing her mouth to be split open and bleeding,” according to court records.
The deputies observed on the victim injuries “consistent with these actions,” according to court records.
Benedict “admitted to both of these actions and causing injury to the victim,” according to court records.
Benedict is held in the Dallas County Jai on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing March 3 in Dallas County District Court.
Benedict was arrested in Dawson in 2021 on a charge of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness after he allegedly “struck on the face on her right cheek” the same victim. He pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of disorderly conduct in Dallas County District Court.
