The Perry Rotary Club has named Perry Fire Chief Grason Hill as the recipient of the 2024 Civil Servant of the Year Award. The award will be presented to Hill at an upcoming meeting of the Perry City Council.
Chief Hill has served Perry as a volunteer fireman for more than 32 years and recently completed his first year as the chief of the Perry Volunteer Fire Department.
The Perry Rotary Club board considered nominees for this year’s Civil Servant of the Year, and Hill received 20 nominations, a testament to the dedication he inspires in the department.
Many people praised Hill for the countless hours he has given to fighting fires, responding to accidents illnesses and ultimately to saving lives and property. Some pointed to his organizational skills in leading the fire department and in making improvements to the department, and others mentioned his willingness to lead fundraising efforts and unselfishly devote time outside of the norm for the department.
All praised Hill’s ability to stay calm and focused when dealing with difficult and sometimes life-threatening situations.
He was also cited as as someone very involved in the community and a great role model
for others.
He will do anything to help the people of Perry, and Perry is indeed fortunate to have Grason Hill in our community and serving as Perry Fire Chief. He is very deserving of this award. He truly exemplifies the Rotary motto, “Service above Self.”
