Perry man allegedly resists arrest for OWI Saturday

Matthew David Corrigan, 33, of Perry was arrested Saturday on charges of first-degree harassment, two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations-bodily injury, interference with officials acts-bodily injury, second-offense OWI and possession of nitrous oxide.

A Perry man was “assisted to the ground” by law enforcement officers Saturday after he grew restive after his arrest for OWI.

Matthew David Corrigan, 33, of 1607 First Ave., Perry, was charged with first-degree harassment, two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations-bodily injury, interference with officials acts-bodily injury, second-offense OWI and possession of nitrous oxide.

The incident began about 9 p.m. Saturday near the intersection of Eighth and Park streets, where a 2020 Nissan Maxima, operated by Corrigan, left the roadway and struck a sign.

Officers of the Perry Police Department responded and made contact with Corrigan. The officers perceived “signs of impairment,” according to court records, and Corrigan was taken into custody and transported to the Dallas County Jail.

At the jail, Corrigan allegedly “began to fight with officers and jail staff” and was at length “assisted to the ground” by law enforcement officers. In the course of the struggle, Corrigan allegedly “dug his fingernail” into one of the officer’s hands and “scratched” another officer on the arm, according to court records.

Corrigan allegedly said to an officer, “I’ll find out where you live,” and he asked, “You go to sleep at night, don’t you?”

Corrigan is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $4,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 8 in Dallas County District Court.

Corrigan was convicted of two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations in 2024 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of interference with official acts in 2024 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of first-offense OWI in 2019 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of two counts of assault causing injury-peace officers/others in 2012 in Dallas County District Court.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
