Enrique Vera-Chavez, 21, of Waukee was arrested Friday on charges of second-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness, obstruction of emergency communications and third-degree theft.

A Waukee man was arrested Thursday after allegedly assaulting a Waukee woman in the home.

Enrique Vera-Chavez, 21, of 701 N.E. Venture Dr., Waukee, was charged with second-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness, obstruction of emergency communications and third-degree theft.

The incident began about 2 a.m. Friday at a residence on the 700 block of N.E. Venture Drive, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that Vera-Chavez allegedly “punched her on the left side of her face with a closed fist,” according to court records.

The officers observed on the victim “an extremely swollen and bruised left eye” and “two nails ripped off the fingers of her right hand,” according to court records.

The victim told the offices that Vera Chavez “struck” her “face to gain possession of the cell phone,” with which he fled the scene prior to the arrival of law enforcement, according to court records.

Vera-Chavez is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing April 14 in Dallas County District Court.

Vera-Chaves was convicted of first-offense domestic abuse assault-bodily injury or mental illness in 2024 in Dallas County District Court.
