
A Waukee man was arrested Monday night outside his residence after he allegedly drunkenly threatened law enforcement and resisted arrest.
Leonard Lee Houston Jr., 39, of 405 Fourth St., Waukee, was charged with public intoxication, two counts of assault on persons in certain occupations, two counts of first-degree harassment and interference with official acts-bodily injury.
The incident began about 11p.m. Monday at a residence in the 400 block of Fourth Street, where officers of the Waukee Police Department responded to a report of “an intoxicated male in the hallway of the apartments going door to door,” according to court records.
The officers made contact with Houston, who presented with an “unsteady balance and slurred speech” and “bloodshot, watery eyes,” according to court records, and he “had an alcoholic beverage in his hand.”
Houston allegedly declined to identify himself or answer the officers’ questions. When he began “putting a key into the lock” of one of the apartments, he allegedly said to the officers, “If you approach my apartment, I’ll shoot you guys,” according to court records.
When the officers attempted to arrest Houston “for public intoxication and harassment,” he allegedly “began to be uncooperative” and resisted detainment in handcuffs.
“Then he was taken to the ground and was detained with handcuffs,” according to court records.
Houston allegedly “would not cooperate and walk” to the patrol vehicle but “continued to fight” and “kicked at all the officers involved” and tried “to bite the officers on scene that were carrying him” to the patrol vehicle, according to court records.
During transport and booking, Houston allegedly continued to make “threats to law enforcement” and “was saying that we are going to die,” according to court records.
Houston is held in the Dallas County Jail on an $8,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing May 15 in Dallas County District Court.
