A huge crowd turned out to hear the pop-rock sounds of 50-year Perry favorites Rukkus at the Pattee Park bandstand Friday evening for the 2025 Friday Fest.

The band’s core lineup includes its founders — lead singer Mark Einck of Perry, rhythm guitarist Jim Wuebker of Grimes and lead guitarist J. C. Wilson of Des Moines. The musicians have played together since seventh grade.

Continuing the family tradition, two of Einck’s grandsons, drummer Will Einck and guitarist John Einck, took the stage with two of their North Polk Middle School classmates, bassist Grant Funkhauser and keyboardist James Klein, for a few hard-rocking numbers. The band calls itself No Response.

Wilson humorously renamed their band Einckkus for the 2018 Friday Fest in honor of the several Einck children who joined the band for that show, and the name still fits in 2025.

“This is such a great turnout,” said one toe-tapping attendee. “Maybe they can start doing the Friday Fests once a month again like they used to.”

Half a dozen vendors served a variety of food and beverages to the festive folks, and the mild spring weather was perfect for the outdoor event.
