Dozens of fans are deployed to dry out the soggy Hotel Pattee after Monday's flooding.

Water damage is under repair at the Hotel Pattee after a solder joint pulled apart Monday afternoon in a third-floor guest room’s bathroom plumbing, flooding the floors below.

“It was a faulty solder joint from when the hotel was remodeled,” said Bob “Stub” Smithson, longtime HVAC mechanic at the 111-year-old hotel. “Several guest rooms on the third and second floors sustained water damage, and it eventually flooded down to the lobby area.”

Smithson said a local restoration company responded promptly and set to work repairing the water damage. Dozens of drying fans were seen in the hotel’s lobby Monday evening.

“J.C. Barck at Rainbow got here right away,” he said. “They are working on it and will most likely be here the rest of the week.”

The city of Perry assumed ownership of the downtown landmark in 2023. Similar flooding occurred in the hotel in 2016 and again in 2022.
