A De Soto man was arrested Sunday after he allegedly assaulted a De Soto woman in the home.

Alexander Mark Gardiner, 38, of 413 Maple St., De Soto, was charged with second-offense domestic abuse assault.

The incident began about 7:30 p.m. Sunday at a residence in the 400 block of Maple Street, where officers of the De Soto Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The officers made contact with the victim, who told the officers that Gardiner allegedly “struck her with a closed first at least three times to the face” and “threw her down a flight of stairs leading to their bedroom,” according to court records.

The officers observed on the victim “injuries to the right eye, left cheek, mouth area, possible broken ribs and pain on both sides of her neck and head area,” according to court records.

Gardiner is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $2,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing June 25 in Dallas County District Court.

Gardiner was convicted of disorderly conduct in 2009 in Polk County District Court.
