The Perry Public Library and Hometown Heritage at the Carnegie Library Museum have scheduled the following events for September:

Hometown Heritage at the Carnegie Library Museum Presents: Bonnie and Clyde Exhibit – September 1 – September 30
Visit the Carnegie Library Museum in September to learn more about the history of the infamous couple Bonnie and Clyde in Perry! This free, all-ages exhibit will be be open September 1st through September 30th during open hours. Carnegie Library Museum hours: Sun/Mon: Closed and Tues-Sat: 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Evening Family Storytime: Mondays – September 8, 15, 22, 29
Your family is invited to join Miss Laura in the library Children’s Area on Monday evenings for our September theme, Let’s Have Fun at the Library! Join us on Monday nights, starting September 8, from 6:30 pm to 7:15 pm for family fun. The Library will be closed for Labor Day on Monday, September 1st, so Family Storytimes begin on the 8th. Tween Zone (3rd to 5th Grades): Tuesdays (NEW TIME! 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm) – September 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
Tween Zone is a weekly library program for students in 3rd through 5th grades, that meets every Tuesday at our NEW TIME, from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Each week will include a fun activity. We may make crafts, play games, or even watch a movie! Our September activities include:

• September 2: Design Your Own Book Bag – We will paint canvas book bags.
• September 9: DIY Fidget Toys – We will make our own fidget toys, including sensory bottles, string toys, and infinity cubes.
• September 16: Imagine With Play-Doh – We will play with Play-Doh! Make whatever you want!
• September 23: DIY Picture Button Making – We will make button pins with a button-maker. Bring your own pictures you want to use.
• September 30: Styrofoam Printing – We will cut designs into styrofoam and cover it in paint to create our own stamps.

Adventure in the World of Dungeons and Dragons (Ages 10+): Tuesdays – September 2, 9, 16, 23, 30
Welcome to a world of Dungeons and Dragons! Dungeons and Dragons is a communal storytelling adventure where you get to play a character of your own creation and make decisions (and rolls) to decide the path of our story and the destiny of your character! Our adventures will be enjoyable for newcomers and experienced players alike. Patrons 10+ are invited to join us as we venture into exciting campaigns in the Perry Public Library Community Room on Tuesday nights in September from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Budding Bookworms Storytime (Ages 2 to 5): Wednesdays – September 3, 10, 17, 24
As we welcome our toddler and preschool friends back to the library and say hello to new friends, this month’s theme is Let’s Have Fun at the Library! Miss Laura will read stories and engage the children in activities and crafts centered around the library, library manners, the care of library books, but most of all, having fun at the library! Budding Bookworms is a Wednesday storytime for ages 2 to 5 that meets weekly from 10:30 am to 11:15 am in the Community Room. This storytime combines our Toddler and Preschool storytimes into a fun, engaging 45-minute program that includes books, singing, dancing, and simple crafts. Our goal is to allow caregivers to introduce their children to good literature, encourage growth in children’s literacy skills, and promote the library as an enjoyable place where learning is fun. Budding Bookworms is free to the public, but please register your child, so we can be prepared with supplies to enhance their experience. “Next Chapter” 55+ Group at the Library: Wednesdays – September 3, 10, 17, 24
Join us for our weekly “Next Chapter” group for patrons 55+, every Wednesday, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm in the Perry Public Library Community Room. We will offer a variety of activities each month, including engaging presentations, social gatherings, games, puzzles, and conversation. September’s schedule includes:

• September 3: Fraud Fighters Presentation: How to Avoid Getting Scammed Out of Your Savings
• September 10: Craft, Conversation, and Puzzles
• September 17: Games and Puzzles
• September 24: Choose Your Own Activity

WOW! Wednesdays STEM Program (K-5th Grades) (NEW TIME! 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm): Wednesdays – September 3, 10, 17, 24
This month, we will be Nature Detectives as we explore the world outside the library. Our WOW! Wednesdays STEAM program for elementary students in kindergarten through fifth grade explores Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math! The group meets every Wednesday at our NEW TIME, from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm, in the Community Room. We will also have our Maker Space cart available for tinkering at each WOW! Wednesday. Our September activities include:

• September 3: We will go on a nature scavenger hunt, begin nature collection journals, and make pine cone bird feeders.
• September 10: We will explore the jungle outside the library by using magnifying glasses to explore one square foot, we will make paper caterpillars and race them, and we will make bug hotels.
• September 17: We will learn about the art of stone stacking, use Wikki Sticks to decorate rocks, and create stick art with sticks and yarn.
• September 24: We will identify leaves, do bark and leaf rubbings, and collect leaves to create leaf art.

Library LEGO Club (3rd to 12th Grades) – Thursdays, September 4, 11, 18, 25
Join the Perry Public Library LEGO Club for LEGO fun on Thursdays in September! Our Library LEGO Club features LEGO challenges and creative activities for patrons in 3rd to 12th grades. Wee Wonders Storytime (Ages Birth to 24 Months): (NEW DAY!) Fridays – September 5, 12, 19, 26
Wee Wonders is an early literacy lapsit program for babies from birth through 24 months and their caregivers – now held every Friday – from 10:30 am to 11:15 am in the Community Room. We sing songs and rhymes, read simple books, do fingerplays and bounces, and incorporate motor skills with shakers and scarves. There is also a period of social play at the end of each program. Plus, each participating baby gets a free board book every time they come to the program. This program is free to the public, but please register your child, so we can be prepared with supplies to enhance their experience. Teen Lounge (6th to 12th Grades) (NEW TIME! 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm): Fridays – September 5, 12, 19, 26
Welcome to the Teen Lounge, our weekly program for teens in middle and high school! We meet on Fridays at our NEW TIME, from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm. Every week will be different: crafts, games, speakers, a movie, karaoke, or just a place to hang out. This month’s planned activities include:

• September 5: Duct Tape Art – We will use different colors of duct tape to create folders and bags.
• September 12: T-Shirt Tote Bags – We will cut and tie T-shirts to create tote bags. Bring your own T-shirt if you have one you want to turn into a bag.
• September 19: Silent Library Challenge – We will try not to laugh at each other while doing silly dances and other activities designed to make each other laugh.
• September 26: Improv Games – We will do improvisational acting games.

Second Saturdays: Little Librarian Camp – Saturday, September 13
We are excited to introduce new Second Saturdays with Miss Laura every month from 10:30 am to 11:30 am! For September, we’re celebrating our little helpers! Bring your child, age 4-10, to the Perry Public Library for activities, games, and crafts related to being a librarian and taking good care of library books. Have your child be a little “Library Helper,” and if your child does not already have their own library card, this would be the perfect time to sign them up for one during Library Card Sign-Up Month. Labor Day Closure – Monday, September 1
Perry Public Library will be closed in observance of Labor Day on Monday, September 1st. We will resume normal business hours on Tuesday, September 2nd, at 10 am.

Monthly Book Club: The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls- Tuesday, September 16
September’s selection has been called an “extraordinary, one-of-a-kind” memoir from one of the world’s most gifted storytellers. Join us on Tuesday, September 16, in the Community Room from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm as we discuss The Glass Castle by Jeannette Walls. Paper Crafting with Kathy: Fall Cards and a Fun Fold Card – Saturday, September 20
Get ready for fall with pumpkins, leaves, and other autumn themes during this month’s Paper Crafting with Kathy. The craft series is held on the third Saturday of each month. We will meet on Saturday, September 20, in the Library Community Room from 10:30 am to 12:30 pm. The class is free, but space is limited and registration is required. Registration closes on Friday, September 19th and it can be completed online through our Events Calendar at www.perry.lib.ia.us. Saturday Crafternoons: Saturday, September 20
Are you looking for a quiet, community space to craft? Then, we have the perfect Saturday event for you! The Perry Public Library welcomes crafters and do-it-yourselfers to our dedicated makerspace on the third Saturday of the month following Paper Crafting with Kathy. You bring your ideas and supplies and we’ll supply the crafting space. Saturday Crafternoons last from 12:30 pm to 4:30 pm in the Library Community Room and offer a free community space to work on projects in a comfortable environment. Plan your next work session for Saturday, September 20, at the library. Tables are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and everyone is invited. No reservations and no charge! Any Book Book Club: A Book That You’ve Been Wanting to Read for a Long Time – Saturday, September 27
The Any Book Book Club is a book club for anyone and any book, just as the name says! We will meet on Saturday, September 27, from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm in the Library Community Room. The Any Book Book Club is a prompted book club where every month we have a prompt and participants pick a book that fits the theme to read! The prompt for September is “A book that you’ve been wanting to read for a long time!” Read whatever book you want that fits that prompt and then come and talk about it on Saturday, September 27, in the Community Room. September Adult Craft Club: Jar Lid Bead Art – Monday, September 29
This month, Candi will show participants how to make a lovely hanging ornament using a jar lid, beads, and a design of your choice.
