Election timeline announced by Dallas County Commissioner of Elections

The Dallas County Commissioner of Elections announced Monday the election timeline  for the 2025 city and school elections scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2025. Polls will be open at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.

The first day to file nomination papers for the offices of mayor, city council or school board director is Monday, Aug. 25. Candidates may pick up paperwork from their respective city or school, from the Dallas County Auditor’s office or may download and print them from the Iowa Secretary of State’s website.

Voters may file an absentee ballot request form with the Dallas County Auditor’s office beginning Tuesday, Aug. 26. The deadline to file candidate paperwork is Thursday, Sept. 18 at 5 p.m. This paperwork must be filed at the Dallas County Auditor’s office for all city offices and with the respective school board secretary for school board positions.

Iowa Code requires that filing officers’ offices — the Auditor’s office and school district central office — must be open until 5 p.m. this date.

The drawing of lots for candidate ballot order will be held Tuesday, Sept. 23 in the Dallas County Auditor’s office.

Monday, Oct. 6 at 5 p.m. is the deadline for filing a petition for a satellite voting location in the Dallas County Auditor’s office. The office is open until 5 p.m.

Absentee ballots will first be mailed on Wednesday, Oct. 15. This is also the first date for in-person absentee voting in the Dallas County Auditor’s office.

The deadline for requesting a mailed absentee ballot as well as for voters to pre-register in Monday, Oct. 20 at 5 p.m.

Monday, Nov. 3 is the last day to vote by in-person absentee ballot in the Dallas County Auditor’s office.
