Perry man allegedly assaults, harasses Perry woman in home

James Martin Moreland Jr., 50, of Perry was arrested Saturday on charges of first-offense domestic abuse assault, second-degree harassment and interference with official acts.

A Perry man was arrested Saturday morning for allegedly assaulting and harassing a Perry woman in the home.

James Martin Moreland Jr., 50, of 1228 W. Fourth St., Perry, was charged with first-offense domestic abuse assault, second-degree harassment and interference with official acts.

The incident began about 10 a.m. Saturday at a residence in the 1200 block of W. Fourth Street, where officers of the Perry Police Department responded to a report of a domestic disturbance.

The officers made contact with Moreland, who admitted “that he put his hands on the victim, pushing her away from him and his truck,” according to court records.

Moreland also allegedly made verbal threats to harm the victim within earshot of the officers, according to court records.

He also allegedly resisted being handcuffed and readied for transport, according to court records.

Moreland was held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Sept. 24 in Dallas County District Court.

Moreland was convicted of assault in 2007 in Dallas County District Court. He was convicted of dominion/control of a firearm/offensive weapon by a felon in 2022 in Dallas County District Court.
