Brando Burgos, 25, of Perry was arrested Saturday on charges of assault on persons in certain occupations, disorderly conduct and first-offense public intoxication.

A Perry man was arrested for public intoxication Saturday night and allegedly assaulted an officer of the Perry Police Department in the course of his arrest.

Brando Burgos, 25, of 1608 Fourth St., Perry,  was charged with assault on persons in certain occupations, disorderly conduct and first-offense public intoxication.

The incident began about 10:15 p.m. Saturday near the corner of Fourth and Rawson streets, where officers of the Perry Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance.

The officers made contact with Burgos, who presented with “bloodshot eyes” and “the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his person,” according to court records.

The officers took Burgos into custody. Once in the patrol vehicle, Burgos grew restive and allegedly kicked an officer “multiple times” while screaming, “Kill me!” according to court records.

Burgos “started to bang his head” on a glass panel in the patrol vehicle and “continued kicking at” the officer and “attempted to bite” the officer, according to court records.

At length Burgos calmed down and blew a .144 on the preliminary breath test, according to court records.

Burgos is held in the Dallas County Jail on a $5,000 cash or surety bond. He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing Oct. 1 in Dallas County District Court.

Burgos was convicted of disorderly conduct and public intoxication in 2019 in Dallas County District Court.
