About a dozen vendors filled the gymnasium of the McCreary Community Building Saturday morning for the 11th annual holiday craft show, the complement to last weekend’s art festival in downtown Perry.
Bev Wesely of Perry has organized the annual craft fair since its revival in 2005. She said the former Brenton Bank sponsored the event for 15 years as an early-October craft show, but the shows ceased after Wells Fargo & Company acquired Brenton Banks Inc. in 2000.
“It was years later at a craft show at the armory,” Wesley said, “when I said to myself, ‘We need to start having the craft show again, and the McCreary Center is just the place for it.’”
With the cooperation of Kathi Henley, at that time the McCreary director, the show was revived. In recent years Wesely has been assisted by longtime Perry resident Ron and Jennifer Milne.
The season’s first snowfall might have reduced the number of vendors by a few — MCB Director John Anderson said some folks from Cedar Falls did not make the trip, for instance — but the snow helped foster the holiday spirits of the shoppers.
