Noah Smith of Waukee recently received the 2015 Dallas County 4-H Outstanding Senior Award from the Perry Kiwanis Club, which sponsors the annual award. Smith is a member of the Boone Progressors 4-H Club in Waukee.
Aleta Cochran, director of the Dallas County 4-H program, said the outstanding senior award recognizes a 4-H member who has completed at least one project record-keeping system and shown outstanding work in several project areas. 4-H members in grades nine through 12 are eligible for the award, she said.
“Noah has been involved in many 4-H activities and accomplishments,” Cochran said. “He has taken pictures of the livestock champions at the Dallas County Fair for the last two years and also helped with setting up the exhibits and in the 4-H food stand during the fair. Plus he volunteered to help with 4-H workshops and the Robotics Club in Waukee.”
Smith also fosters the 4-H spirit among younger members, Cochran said, by sponsoring Clover Kids events and community service projects. Smith has had at least one project advance to the Iowa State Fair.
Six-year Perry Kiwanian Tom Gardiner presented Smith with the Outstanding Senior Award at ceremonies held Nov. 16.
