A tough Winterset squad recorded a 4-0 Raccoon River Conference win over Perry at Dewey Field Tuesday in the opening match of the season for both teams.
Perry fell into a 2-0 hole at the half and were unable to hold off the Huskies, who added a pair of goals in the second half to secure the win.
“We just had trouble running the offense consistently,” Jayette assistant coach Fred Niebaum said. “We really struggled to get shots on goal against a good team that had some very athletic players.”
The Jayette JV dropped a 2-0 decision, allowing one goal in each of the weather-shortened 20-minute halves.
“Despite the loss I thought we came together well and had some moments where we put some good, clean passes together,” Niebaum said. “It was a good start for us.”
Perry hosts Carlisle at Dewey Field Thursday, with the JV game to start at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity at approximately 7 p.m. The Jayettes and Bluejay squads will host Des Moines Hoover Friday for a co-ed twinbill, with the girls game to being at 5:30.
