The 2016 PHS Homecoming celebrations saw many highlights, and the memories will last along time. Two worth noting here were the successful revival of the homecoming parade tradition on Wednesday and the presence at Friday night’s football game of the PHS Class of 1976, who gathered to celebrate their 40th class reunion and participated in a halftime ceremony at Dewey Field.

As the PHS Marching Band prepared to take the field, the announcer’s voice read the following narrative of the PHS Class of 1976:

Perry High School welcomes back the graduating class of 1976!
• With a 150 classmates, their senior year was highlighted by America`s 200th birthday, the 1976 Bicentennial.
• Leading up to Homecoming, these students painted residential fire hydrants red, white and blue throughout the Perry community.
• On Thursday night, the PHS traditions of painting The Rock and leading the Snake Dance around town was held before the popular Powder Puff football game, which this senior class of girls won!
• A Mr. Legs contest, with a variety of skits, added to the pep rally fun at the football field, which ended with a huge bonfire.
• On Friday an all-school assembly was held for the Homecoming Queen coronation in the gym, and the homecoming parade immediately followed.
• This same senior class captured first place with their Eat ‘Em Up Jays float, featuring a very large birthday cake.
• The weather was beautiful Sept. 26, when the Bluejays secured a convincing 23 to 6 victory over the Sac City Indians. The spirit of victory led to an exciting Homecoming Dance at the high school.
• The Perry football team had an outstanding season, with a record of 7 wins and only 2 losses.
• There was an abundance of experience, with 16 seniors leading the team. Most of these 1976 classmates were born and raised right here in Perry and know the true passion of what it means to be a Bluejay!
• Welcome back the Class of 1976, “Always a Bluejay!”
