The Perry Fine Arts concert series will present percussion soloist Matthew Coley in a performance Sunday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m. in the Perry Performing Arts Center at 1200 18th St. in Perry.
Coley is an internationally acclaimed percussionist, performing on marimba, drums, hammered dulcimer, cimbalom and glass. He tours regularly, bringing the beauty of the marimba’s singing wood and the diverse timbre of other percussion instruments to many audiences worldwide.
He has performed in more than 30 U.S. states, 10 countries and as a soloist with ensembles throughout the U.S. and abroad.
Coley was on the percussion faculty in the Iowa State University Department of Music and Theater from 2009-2015. He now directs the academy, touring ensemble, quartet, and publications divisions of the Heartland Marimba Festival (HMF) at the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point.
After six years of teaching at ISU, Matthew is again performing full-time performer and working to develop a bigger, better HMF. His direction of the HMF brings marimba and dulcimer composers into the spotlight through a variety of performance projects.
Perry Fine Arts concerts are free and open to the public. Donations are accepted. The Perry Performing Arts Center is handicapped accessible.
