Perry seniors Grace Marburger, Adrian Thompson and Maddie West played their final volleyball matches at home for Thursday.
Unfortunately for the Jayettes (4-34, 0-7), Carlisle (15-14, 4-3) had no plans to allow the hosts to celebrate, and drove their point home with a 3-0 sweep in their Raccoon River Conference meeting. The Wildcats won each game by a 25-15 final, with each following a somewhat similar pattern.
The teams were tied at 6-all in the first set before the Wildcats opened an 11-8 lead. Perry clawed their way back into the match, but Carlisle slowly pulled away, using a 5-0 run to help fuel a spurt that sealed the opening set win.
Set two developed in nearly the same matter, with the guests slowly pulling away once the scores reached the double-digits. A clearly deflated Perry team still managed to be with 15-13 in the third set, but a 10-2 run from the visitors ended the match.
Jo Diw had eight kills, Thompson five, Marburger two and Isabel Saemisch one, with Sid Vancil tallying 14 assists and Saemisch one. Thompson finished with two blocks, with single blocks recorded by Diw, Marburger, Saemisch, Vancil and West.
Syd Guerra’s nine digs were a team high, with Diw making eight digs, Marburger and West four apiece, Vancil two and Saemisch and Thompson one each.
Vancil had an ace on 11-of-11 serving, with Diw 6-8-1 and West 4-7-1. Thompson finished 5-6-2, with Guerra 7-of-7 and Marburger 6-of-6.
Perry will play in the Knoxville Invitational Saturday before concluding their regular season Monday with a non-conference visit to Greene County.
