GREENE COUNTY — The oldest traveling trophy in Iowa prep football, The Cowbell Trophy, was claimed Friday by Greene County for the third consecutive season. The Rams were 38-0 victors to improve to 55-28-2 all-time in the game, which became “The Cowbell” game in 1928 when the Rotary Clubs from both Perry and Jefferson created the trophy to honor the significance of the rivalry.
The winless and unheralded Rams (1-7, 1-5) dominated every facet of last Friday’s meeting on Linduska Field, blocking two punts, forcing four turnovers and holding the Bluejays (2-6, 0-6) under 100 yards of total offense in storming to a 38-0 victory to run their winning streak in the rivalry to three.
Perry will conclude their season Friday when they are visited by Iowa Falls-Alden (3-5, 1-5). The Cadets were defeated by Webster City, 42-7, last Friday. Their lone District 2 win was a 28-13 victory at Greene County. IF-A opened the season with a 41-0 victory over Hampton-Dumont and a 36-6 win over Aplington-Parkersburg. The Bluejays have been outscored, 265-20, in district play; the Cadets have yielded 203 points and scored 69 in district action.
