BONDURANT — The volleyball season for Perry came to a halt Wednesday in their Class 4A Region 4 First Round contest with host Bondurant-Farrar, who made short work of the Jayettes, 3-0.
Perry (8-26) played a competitive first set, but fell, 25-17. A 25-12 loss followed in the second set, with a listless squad offering little resistance in suffering a 25-6 defeat in the third set that ended the season. The Jayettes finished with an almost unheard-of total of just three kills. While Perry served two aces, they did not have any blocks, meaning 30 of the 35 points the team scored came on B-F errors and not from the Jayette offense.
“I can’t pinpoint one specific thing we did well other than serve,” a disappointed Perry head coach Kristel Schultz said. “If it was not the passing, it was the setting, or the defensive positioning, or a lack of communication on the floor — we simply could not string anything together. It was very frustrating.”
Jo Diw had two kills and Isabel Saemisch one, with Sidney Vancil making tree assists while also providing three digs. Syd Guerra had four digs, Diw had three digs, with Maddie West and Grace Marburger having two digs apiece and Adriana Eastman one.
Marburger had an ace on 8-of-9 serving, with West 3-4-1. Diw and Guerra were both 6-of-6, Vancil 5-of-5 and Adrian Thompson 4-of-4.
The loss ends the prep volleyball careers of Marburger, Thompson and West.
