LAST MEETING — The team have not met since a 37-34 Eagle win, in Pella, in the second round of the 2008 playoffs.
ABOUT THE HAWKS — Woodward-Granger’s playoff hopes took a big hit in week seven with a 28-14 loss to Mt. Ayr, with a 46-14 setback to Pleasantville last Friday eliminating the Hawks. W-G will see two seniors — wide out/defensive back John Stucker and tailback/lineback Tanner Vermaas — will play their final games for the Hawks Friday.
Vermaas is hobbled with hip and ankle injuries but intends to play if at all possible. He has carried 198 times for 1,279 yards and 20 touchdowns this season and is just 26 yards shy of 3,000 rushing yards for his career (513-2,974 and 33 TDs).
Austin Scharlau (47-234), Payton Tague (26-135) and Brendan Bird (39-120, 3 TDs) have also carried the ball.
Bird is 40-97-7 for 657 yards and six TDs through the air, with Tague 4-of-4 for 102 yards. Saak (16-175, 1 TD), Stucker (8-197, 2 TDs) and J.P. Nixon (9-195, 2 TDs) have been the primary targets.
Devan Kirkman (42), Scharlau (41.5) and Vermaas (41) are the lead tacklers for a unit that had intercepted five passes and recovered 12 fumbles.
ABOUT THE EAGLES — The Eagles do a lot of things well, and scoring points leads the list. Pella Christian’s 464 total points have come on 27 passing and 35 rushing touchdowns, three non-offensive TDs and four safeties from the defense, along with a field goal and sundry extra points. No team playing 11-man football in Iowa has scored as many points, and only four 8-player teams have more total points.
Quarterback David Kacmarynski is 62-92-3 for 1,308 yards and 24 TDs, with Levi Jungling (29-771, 14 TDs) his leading choice of targets. Graham Howezyl (16-251, 1 TD), Caleb Roose (14-198, 8 TDs) and Hayden Broom (7-173, 3 TDs) have also been heavily involved in the passing game.
Seven Eagles have rushed for more than 100 yards, with Mike Wiehart (76-427, 10 TDs), Jungling (36-419, 8 TDs) and Kacmarynski (47-394, 7 TDs) the top rushers. Sam Fredrickson (33-220, 2 TDs) and Carballo Moises (30-152, 2 TDs) have also seen their share of the rushing duties.
Fredrickson leads the defense with 37 tackles, with Eddie Pringle making 33 stops. The Eagles have intercepted eight passes and fallen on 15 fumbles.
