Bock Family Foundation grants $54K to 30 groups

The Bock Family Foundation Inc. of Perry awarded about $55,000 in grant funds to 30 Dallas County non-profit groups and state and local government entities at a ceremony Wednesday at the Perry Public Library. Individual recipients are identified below.

The Bock Family Foundation Inc. distributed 30 grants totaling $54,255 at the fall awards ceremony Wednesday at the Perry Public Library.

Bock Family Foundation Executive Director Scott Finneseth announced the grant awardees, and foundation board member Rev. Paul Burrow handed out the checks at the hour-long event. Each awardee briefly described the project funded by the grant.

Awardees in the fall grant cycle were chosen by the foundation’s board of directors: President John Powell, Vice President Brent Halling, Secretary Joyce Van Kirk and board members Jean Bromert, Jon S. Peters, Harley Weyer and Burrow.

Based in Perry and founded in 2002 by the Larry Bock and Barbara Bock Estates, the Bock Family Foundation Inc. has so far awarded nearly $1.6 million to groups serving religious, charitable, scientific, literary or educational purposes in Dallas County.

Fall 2016 grant award recipients were:

  1. First United Methodist Church, Perry: $2,000 for the replacement of the dishwasher and sanitizer unit for the kitchen
  2. Dallas County Hospital Foundation: $2,000 towards the purchase of audio visual equipment and furniture for the Wellness Education Room
  3. Dallas County Public Health Nursing Services: $1,795.85 for the purchase of diapers, receiving blankets and health and safety kits for the Family Nesting Program
  4. Dallas County Conservation Board: $5,000 for “Let’s Connect” (Perry-to-Woodward trail project)
  5. Dallas County Conservation Board: $3,500 towards paving eight gravel crossings of the North Loop of the Raccoon River Valley Trail
  6. Perry Volunteer Fire Department: $500 for the purchase of tools for fire and explosive investigations
  7. Perry Volunteer Fire Department: $2,000 for the purchase of CPR mannequins and training aids
  8. Perry Public Library: $500 towards the implementation of the Book-a-Bike Program
  9. Perry Parks and Recreation Department: $1,250 towards the replacement of damaged bricks at the Veteran’s Memorial
  10. Washington Township School Foundation: $1,000 towards water abatement
  11. Dallas County Habitat for Humanity: $2,000 for the “Rock the Block” program
  12. Perry Elementary School: $1,360 to purchase milk tickets for K-2nd Grade students
  13. Perry High School-“The Grow”: $1,500 towards the purchase of equipment to build a storage shed for gardening tools and supplies for the school garden
  14. Perry High School Vocal Music/Performing Arts Center: $1,000 towards the purchase of risers and hanging microphones
  15. Perry High School Industrial Technology–TSA: $500 towards the purchase of a CO2 Race Car Track
  16. Perry High School Industrial Technology: $2,000 towards to purchase of a MIG fabricator welder
  17. Perry School Student Activities Department: $1,500 towards the purchase of a Legend Fit Cable Crossover Plus
  18. St. Patrick’s Catholic School: $2,000 towards updates for gymnasium
  19. PACES: $6,500 for the Pre K-5th Grade Learning Center Program 2016-2017
  20. Perry Child Development Center: $5,000 for scholarships
  21. Perry Lutheran Home: $2,000 towards the purchase of playground equipment for the intergenerational child care service
  22. Rowley Memorial Masonic Home: $2,000 towards the purchase of a Nu-Step exercise machine
  23. Perry Fine Arts: $800 for concerts by the Statesmen and Shy of a Dozen
  24. Christ Lutheran Church, LCMS-Bouton: $500 towards the purchase of an automatic external defibrillator (AED)
  25. Dawson United Methodist Church: $1,000 towards septic tank repairs
  26. Panther Creek Church of the Brethren: $1,700 towards the purchase of kitchen equipment
  27. Pegasus Inc.: $1,000 for the purchase of a computer and computer software
  28. Minburn Public Library: $300 for the purchase of audio books
  29. Miracle Travel Works Inc.: $1,000 for travel expenses for families with sick children
  30. Everybody Wins! Iowa Inc.: $1,000 towards the implementation of the Power Read program at the Perry Elementary School

The Bock Family Foundation Inc. supports organizations operated for religious, charitable, scientific, literary or educational purposes. In order to qualify for grant funding, projects must be located in Dallas County, and applicants must be a nonprofit organization or a unit of state or local government.
