The police victims in Wednesday morning’s ambush-style killings have been identified as Urbandale Police Sgt. Justin Martin and Des Moines Police Sgt. Anthony Beminio.
Des Moines Police Sgt. Paul Parizek made the announcement Wednesday afternoon. Parizek said there was nothing to indicate that either of the officers had any previous interactions with the suspect in the murders, Scott Michael Greene of Urbandale.
Martin was the first victim killed in the attack. He was found lifeless in his patrol car near 73rd Street and Aurora Avenue in Urbandale shortly after 1 a.m. Beminio was killed about 1:20 a.m. He was also found in his police cruiser on Merle Hay Road about two miles from the first shooting.
Beminio joined the Des Moines Police Department in 2005. Martin has been on the Urbandale force since 2015.
