The play is a musical version of Charles Dickens’ holiday classic, “A Christmas Carol,” with the message of the Gospel written into the story. The ghosts become angels, and Ebenezer trusts God to change him rather than trying to do it by himself.

Church spokesperson Cassie Henriksen said the congregants of Bethel “are particularly appreciative to the people of surrounding communities for supporting this endeavor by their attendance over the years.”

Like the Bethel Church itself, the cast and crew members of “The Gospel According to Scrooge” live in Boone, Jefferson, Madrid, Ogden, Perry, West Des Moines and Woodward, and they range in age from 5 to “eightyish,” Henriksen said.

She said Bethel presented “Scrooge” for the first time in the mid-1980s and has continued to offer bi-annually what is now a Boone County tradition.

The two-hour play is free and open to the public. A free-will offering will be received during intermission. A nursery provided for families.

Bethel Church is located near the intersection of County Road R18 and County Road E57 in rural Boone County. The church is 5 miles south of U.S. Highway 30, 8 miles north of Woodward and 7 miles west of Luther.
