Services for Luella Marie Olson were held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28 at Hastings Funeral Home in Perry. Visitation was after 1 p.m. Sunday, with family present from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pastor Stephen Brinton of the First Baptist Church in Perry provided words of comfort. Casket bearers were Larry Cole, Larry Nelson, Joe McCarty, Dan Hick, David Workman and Bob Carhill. Recorded music selected was “Who Am I?” and “Holes in the Floor of Heaven.”

Interment took place at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. A luncheon was served following the cemetery services in the Hastings Funeral Home lounge.

Luella Marie Olson, daughter of Clark William Godwin and Edna Marie Schnoor Godwin, was born Dec. 23, 1929, west of Perry, Iowa.

Luella graduated from Dawson High School as class valedictorian in 1948.

She worked at Priebes in Perry before her marriage Oct. 8, 1950, to Bruce Olson. They were parents of three children, Debby, Delane and Dolan.

Luella and her family lived in Dawson and Perry. She was a homemaker and loved caring for her family.

Luella worked for the First Baptist Church as secretary and started a children’s church ministry for young people. She worked in the accounting center for Greyhound Bus Company in Urbandale. When McDonald’s first opened, she worked as a hostess and enjoyed all the people she met.

Luella worked for a time at Hastings Funeral Home and then as a teacher’s assistant at the Gingerbread House Preschool, where she loved being grandma to many. For a time she assisted at the Clothes Closet. She was never idle.

Luella was a member of First Baptist Church in Perry.

She enjoyed collecting, cooking and making great pies! She had aquariums full of fish and was a beautiful seamstress. Debby’s wedding gown and her attendants’ dresses were some of Luella’s bigger sewing accomplishments.

Luella also enjoyed jig saw puzzles and word search.

Luella was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bruce, on July 20, 1974; daughter, Delane Peck, on March 12, 1990; sister, Lyla Woods, and her husband, Myron; sister, Lorene Elliott; sister and brother-in-law, Carole and Jerry Hanlon; and their son, Tracy.

Her memory will be cherished by her daughter, Debby Netherton, and husband, Jerry, of Perry; son, Dolan Olson of Boone; and son-in-law, Thomas Peck, and his wife, Patti Jo, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; six grandchildren: Jennifer Kilts and husband, Thomas, of Des Moines; Brian Netherton and wife, Melissa, of Perry; Craig Olson and wife, April, of Grimes; Travis Olson of Perry; Casey Lynn Heckman and husband, Derek, of Waukee; and Andrew Peck and wife, Alyssa, of Ann Arbor, Mich.; 11 great-grandchildren: Ashley, Rachel, Kristen, Chyanne, Thomas Jr., Gavin, Brooklynn, Colton, Malcom, Jaidyn and Delaney; one great-great-grandson, Braxton, and another great-great-grandchild on the way in May; brother-in-law, Robert Elliott and his wife, Karen, of Waterloo; many special nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
