A Saturday matinee turned out to be a pleasant way to spend a weekend afternoon for the Perry girls cagers, as the Jayettes pulled out a 39-36 win over visiting Des Moines Christian in non-conference play.
The game was a back-and-forth affair, with neither team leading by more than five points at any moment. Perry trailed, 9-7, after one frame but took a 15-13 edge into the locker room.
The hosts were able to move ahead by an extra basket to lead, 32-28, after three quarter, then played solid defense down the stretch to hold off the Lions and improve to 4-0 overall for the season.
Perry connected on five 3-pointers and made 10-of-16 at the foul line in the win while DMC knocked down two triples and finished 6-of-8 at the stripe.
Jo Diw hit three treys to lead all scorers with 16 points, with teammate Emma Olejniczak adding seven points. Grace Stewart tallied six points, with five points apiece from Grace Marburger and Molly Lutmer completing the Perry scoring.
DMC was led by Beth Zimmer’s 14 points, with Ava Van Soelen providing nine points.
Perry hosts DC-G Tuesday and visits Carlisle Friday. Both dates are girl/boy sets, with the ladies starting the action at 6 p.m.
