Woodward-Granger wrestlers sweep opponents in quadrangular

WOODWARD — Tuesday’s cooking appeared to fill the appetite of the Woodward-Granger wrestlers quite well, as the Hawk matmen feasted on a trio of opponents while hosting a quadrangular.

W-G opened with a 45-27 win over Ogden before besting Montezuma, 57-16. A 54-29 win over Perry capped the evening. In other action, Perry topped Montezuma, 54-30 and Ogden, 45-36 while Ogden was a 36-24 victor against Montezuma.

Five Hawks finished with 3-0 records at the meet, including senior Aaron Sperling, who had two pins and a forfeit at 170 pounds and freshman Cody Fishner at 195, who also pinned two foes and received a forfeit. Junior Austin Scharlau won twice by fall and once by decision at 152, with Tanner Vermaas (182) and Hunter Pierce (106) each scoring one pin while benefiting from a pair of forfeits.

Finishing 2-1 were Tate Lettow (120) with a pair of forfeits, Jay Dorenkamp (132) with a pin and a forfeit, Cole Carman (138) with a pin and a forfeit and Gabe Yingst (145), who scored both of his wins by pinfall.

Colt Palmer won a decision a 126 pounds to finish 1-2, with Cole Pritchett (160) 1-2 with a win by fall while Tyler Lawrenson (220) and Alex Kirton (285) were both 1-2, with each earning their win by fall.

The Hawks return to the mat Saturday when they participate in the Ogden Duals.
