The National Weather Service (NWS) in Des Moines has issued a winter weather advisory for snow that will remain in effect from 2 p.m. Saturday until 6 p.m. Sunday.

A total snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches is expected in the area between U.S. Interstate 80 and U.S. Highway 30. Three to 6 inches are expected in a wide swath of Iowa between U.S. Highway 30 and the Minnesota border.

Along with the snow, southeast winds of 10 to 15 mph, with gusts to 25 mph, are forecast Saturday afternoon and evening, according to the NWS. Visibility restrictions of 1-2 miles are predicted, with visibility less than 1 mile possible at times.

Winds are expected to diminish by Sunday morning and lessen the potential for restricted visibility, the NWS said.

Hazardous travel conditions are predicted due to reduced visibility and snow-covered roads. The NWS said travelers should use caution while  driving.
