Carroll native Matt Rohe left the manager's position Friday at the Perry Hy-Vee.

The Perry Hy-Vee underwent a leadership change this week with one Matt leaving and another taking his place as Carroll native Matt Rohe took the reins from Store Director Matt May.

Rohe comes to Perry from the Pleasantville Hy-Vee, where he was store director for two years. He began working for the company in Carroll in 1996 and has also served at stores in Waterloo and Columbia, Mo.

Rohe even served a stint in 2004 as an IT technician in Hy-Vee’s West Des Moines offices.

The Carroll High School graduate took a degree in marketing from the University of Northern Iowa and also qualified as a certified pharmacy tech after completing a program at Hy-Vee University.

Rohe and his wife, Alaina, have two young sons, aged 3 and 2. They have arranged to buy the house on First Avenue that the May family recently vacated.

“Alaina and I are very excited to make the move to Perry,” Rohe said Tuesday. “It’s a store with a very successful tradition, and we look forward to continuing the tradition with the Perry staff.”

He officially took up his duties in Perry Tuesday but said he spent some time “hanging out with Matt here one day,” when he met “all the great employees and even some of the loyal customers.”

Rohe said one of the things he admires about the Perry story and means to keep going is its high degree of community involvement.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be giving this opportunity to Matt,” said Darren Baty, executive vice president of Hy-Vee’s eastern region. “”Matt is ready to take on this new challenge of running our Perry store. He has worked hard for this opportunity, and we are confident he will do well. We look for great things out of Matt as he takes over leading the team in Perry.”

May will now be the director of one of the company’s stores in Madison, Wis.

The Perry Hy-Vee employs about 150 full-time and part-time workers.

Hy-Vee high flyers Matt Rohe, right, and Matt May both received congratulations on their new assignments this week. Rohe is the new director of the Perry store, and May moves to Madison, Wis.
