ADEL — Dallas County Auditor Julia Helm, Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard and Dallas County Supervisor Mark Hanson were sworn into office Tuesday morning in ceremonies at the Dallas County Courthouse.
With an honorable judge of the Dallas County District Court administering the oath, each elected office holder in turn swore the following oath:
“I do solemnly swear that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Iowa, and that I will faithfully and impartially, to the best of my ability, discharge all the duties of the office in Dallas County, as now or hereafter required by law.”
Helm assumes elected office for the first time, having successfully run unopposed for the Dallas County auditor’s seat in the 2016 general election. Helm worked 10 years in the auditor’s office under fellow Republican Gene Krumm, who retired as auditor Dec. 31.
Leonard, a Republican, first came to the sheriff’s office in a special election held in January 2007. He was re-elected in 2008, 2012 and 2016. He ran unopposed in his 2016 race.
Hanson begins his fourth term representing the second supervisor district. Hanson won in November’s general election contest, beating Democrat rival and fellow Waukee resident Julie Stewart.
