Beginning Feb. 2, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach will be offering Great Beginnings for Families, a five-week skills-building program for parents of infants through preschoolers. The series is being offered in English and Spanish.

Great Beginnings helps mothers and fathers learn how to effectively administer positive discipline and guidance while helping their youngsters cope with anger and conflict. Encouraging learning through play and understanding the key principles of child development are also core lessons of this program.

“Trying to communicate or reason with a little one whose language isn’t developed can cause stress for both child and parent, presenting unique yet frustrating challenges,” said ISU Extension Educator and Great Beginnings facilitator Lisa Mickelson. “This program provides participants with the tools they need to overcome these challenges and build a strong family.”

Great Beginnings for Families is offered at no cost. Sessions will take place 6-7:30 p.m. on Thursdays from Feb. 2 to March 2 at the Perry Elementary School.
