Perry wrestlers fall to Creston/O-M and Winterset

Greater depth and experience throughout their lineups allowed Creston/Orient-Macksburg and Winterset to claim wins over host Perry in a wrestling triangular Thursday. C/O-M was a 57-17 winner over Perry, with Winterset notching a 54-23 win over their hosts. A 45-24 victory over Winterset gave Creston/O-M two wins at the meet.

Three Perry grapplers — Kaleb Olejniczak (113 pounds), Zach Thompson (120) and Zach Stewart (132) — finished with a pair of wins Thursday.

Olejniczak was a 9-6 winner of Jacob Goodson (C/O-M) before pinning Trey Allen (WNT) in 2 minutes, 31 seconds, with Thompson pinning Brayton Chestnut (C/O-M) in 35 seconds and tallying a 20-5 technical fall (4:59) against Dylan Wagner (WNT). Stewart recorded a 15-0 tech fall over Kelby Luther (C/O-M) in four minutes while also receiving a forfeit.

Adan Medina rallied for a 5-4 hole with a take down with three seconds left to nip Winterset’s Connor Van Pelt at 170 pounds for a win, with Cole Snyder (160) emerging with a 16-14 win over Winterset’s Dexter Johnson, with Erick Funez (152) winning a decision over Mason Kinsella (C/O-M) for the other Bluejay victory.

Perry left the 220-pound weight class uncontested.

A total of 16 teams will visit Perry tomorrow for the annual Bluejay Invitational. A total of 30 ranked wrestlers are expected to be in action, with wrestling beginning at 9 a.m.
