Panorama's Tyler Van Houten battles Carroll's Parker Klocke for the 152-pound title at the Perry Invitational Jan. 14.

All 10 of the Panorama wrestlers who competed in Saturday’s Perry Invitational earned a spot on the podium in their weight class, helping the team finish behind only three other squads in an event featuring 30 ranked grapplers.

Sergeant Bluff-Luton scored 182 points to win the invitational, with Dowling Catholic second at 160 points, Webster City third at 146.5 and Panorama fourth at 128, with Des Moines East closing out the top five with 122.5 points.

Senior 152-pounder Tyler Van Houten (31-2) was the lone Panther to win his weight class. He used a pair of pinfall victories and a 2-1 decision over SB-L’s Keyton Ruskamp to advance to the finals, where he pinned Carroll’s Parker Klocke in 4 minutes, 44 seconds.

Dalton Holmes (30-4) won twice by pin before suffering a loss by fall to Woodward-Granger’s Cody Fisher in the 195-pound semifinals. He responded with a 2-0 decision over Des Moines East’s Adam March, with a 3-2 win over SB-L’s Fidel Torres securing third place.

The only other Panther to finish in the top half of his class was 126-pounder Noah Kirtley (18-14). After a bye and a loss by fall he rattled off a pair of pinfall wins before Class 3A No. 6 Brock Espalin stopped Kirtley by technical fall in the third place match to leave Kirtley fourth overall.

Danny Nordquist (25-8) was fifth at 120 pounds, George Appleseth (28-4) was fifth at 132, Gunnar Grunsted (29-5) fifth at 160 and Dan Jensen (17-10) fifth at heavyweight. All helped compile the overall team points that lifted the Panthers to fourth place in a competitive field.

Placing sixth at 182 was Trevor Carey (20-15), with Brady Howard (23-13) seventh at 220 while Kaleb Stogdill (19-15) was eighth at 145. The team left the 106, 113, 120 and 170 pound weight classes uncontested.

Panorama will return to the mat in a quadrangular at Interstate-35 Thursday before taking part in the two-day Southwest Valley Invitational Friday and Saturday.
