January 9, 2017

  • An officer responded to a medical call and assisted the Boone County Hospital regarding a patient lift assist.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident regarding a civil standby.
  • Officers took a report from a passing motorist about someone who possibly fell through the ice while ice fishing near the boat ramp on Iowa Highway 210. The officers made contact with the fisher, who checked out okay.

January 10, 2017

  • An officer stopped a suspicious occupied vehicle in the parking lot of Edgewood Park. Everything checked out okay.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle in the 100 block of N. Kennedy Avenue. The driver was warned for failure to dim headlamps.
  • An officer stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of S. Kennedy Avenue. The driver was warned for speeding.

January 11, 2017

  • An officer received a call from several female employees at Git-N-Go who reported a male in a white Suburban loitering in the store several times over several days and making inappropriate comments to the female employees while they worked. The male was identified as Jeff McDonald of Madrid, and he was subsequently trespassed from the property at the store manager’s request.

January 12, 2017

  • An officer responded to the 300 block of 21st Street for a two-vehicle collision The officer assisted with an exchange of information while on scene.
  • An officer took a report of a black lab found in the 500 block of E. Third Street. The animal was put into the city shed until the humane society could pick it up.
  • An officer responded to 408 Newton Rd. regarding a domestic situation. It was determined that an assault causing bodily injury occurred, and a Christopher Wahlert of that address was arrested. Wahlert was charged with serious domestic abuse assault causing bodily injury and transported to the Boone County Jail.

January 13, 2017

  • An officer performed a vehicle unlock at Casey’s.
  • An officer followed up on past drug case.
  • An officer spoke to a Madrid resident regarding a civil child custody case.

January 14, 2017

  • An officer responded to the 700 block of E. Sixth Street to take a report of a domestic assault that occurred approximately 25 minutes earlier at a house on Jonathon Drive. The officer put out an attempt to locate on the suspect vehicle and took the report. A short time later, a Boone County Deputy Sheriff located the car driving erratically near U.S. Highway 30 and made a traffic stop. Lance Tjernagel of 107 Jonathon Drive was arrested for felony OWI and third-offense domestic abuse assault, a Class D felony. Tjernagel was turned over to the jail for processing.

January 15, 2017

  • An officer picked up large, reddish-gold colored dog with red collar in the 400 block of Southern Prairie Drive. The dog’s owner called the police department, and the animal was returned.
  • An officer took a report of a possible violation of a protective order stemming from the domestic disturbance the previous night. The officer will speak with the Boone County Attorney to determine whether the order was violated.

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
