Perry wrestlers stopped by Carlisle, Des Moines Lincoln

CARLISLE — Perry competed in a wrestling triangular Thursday and came out on the short end of both of their duals, falling first to Carlisle, 60-21, before suffering a 42-31 loss to Des Moines Lincoln in their second bout. Carlisle finished 2-0 with a 44-34 win over Lincoln in the final dual.

Third-ranked Kaleb Olejniczak won twice at 113 pounds, both times by major decision. He first stopped Carlisle’s Carter Logue, 14-3, before topping Lincoln’s Ryan Munoz, 11-3.

Zachary Thompson, ranked sixth at 120, recorded two wins by technical fall. He was a 20-5 winner over Dez Hummel of Carlisle in 3 minutes, 55 seconds and then needed one less second for a 19-4 victory against Dylan Veigulis of Lincoln.

Also winning twice for the Bluejays was 132-pounder Zach Stewart, who is currently ranked 10th. He opened with a pin of Carlisle’s Tyler Squires in 5:11 before defeating Lincoln’s Leo Blawou with a 13-5 major decision.

Perry’s remaining points against Carlisle came at 152, where freshman Erick Funez stuck Grant Mutch’s shoulders to the mat in 3:26.

The Bluejays tallied a trio of pinfalls against Lincoln, beginning with Cole Snyder sticking Trenton Steffens in 2:36 at 160 pounds. Adan Medina stepped up to 182 and pinned Gavin Gearhart in 1:19, with Juan Campos nailing Ramiro Renteria in 5:36 at 195 pounds.

Perry will compete Saturday in the Williamsburg Invitational before joining ADM and Woodward-Granger for a quadrangular at Boone Tuesday. AC/GC, Ballard and Humboldt will visit Perry Thursday, with the Bluejays wrestling in the Raccoon River Conference tournament at ADM Jan. 28.
