PANORA — It is not often that a team enters intermission holding a 31-point lead, but that was exactly the case for undefeated Van Meter against host Panorama Friday.

The Bulldogs (16-0, 14-0) exploded to a 47-16 halftime gulf en route to a 70-34 win over the Panthers (5-13, 5-10) in West Central Conference play. The loss was the seventh straight for the hosts.

Panorama was in the game after eight minutes, trailing just 23-16 as the second quarter began. At that point the guests seized control, scoring 24 points while not allowing a single point to the home team, thereby producing their halftime advantage.

After three frames the score stood at 66-27, with only the final tally to be decided.

Trey Cobb and Luke South had seven points apiece to lead Panorama, with Jeramy Randol and Gracen Welberg each scoring four points. Blaine Barber, Kolby Shakelford and Mitchell Wagler provided three points apiece, with Michael Allen adding a free throw. Randol’s six rebounds were a team-high for the Panthers, who converted just 7-of-20 free throws.

J.J. Durflinger had 16 points, Blake Fryar 13, Grant Johnson 11 and Jack Trudo 10 for Van Meter. Ryan Schmitt tallied nine points, Ian Abrahamson six and Anthony Potthoff five. Schmitt had 11 rebounds and three blocks, Durflinger four assists and three steals and Fryar two blocks.

Panorama visits Woodward-Granger Tuesday and Ogden Friday.
