- The Jefferson Public Works Department advised an officer of several bags of garbage illegally dumped in the dumpster at the Jefferson Public Library. Mail in the garbage provided a suspect for the officer, who is attempting to contact the subject about the theft of services.
- Officers witnessed a female drive to the LEC to visit a subject held in jail. The officer had previous knowledge that the female was suspended from driving in Iowa. The officer’s investigation led to Tanisha May Dillinger of Perry being cited for driving while suspended, operation without registration and failure to provide proof of financial liability. The officer had the vehicle towed to the impound lot until a licensed driver could come to remove it. It also will need proof of insurance and a current registration.
- A local gas station reported a shoplifting at 303 N. Elm St. that occurred Jan. 30. Video of the event has been provided to the officer, and the investigation continues.
- Officers investigated a hit-and-run accident at 401 W. McKinley St. A 2005 Buick Lesabre, owned by Dennis Borkowski of Jefferson, was parked at the facility. Witnesses said a white SUV back from a parking space across the street from Borkowski’s vehicle. The trailer hitch on the SUV made very light contact with the door on the Borkowski vehicle. The driver of the SUV was unaware his vehicle struck the Borowski vehicle and drove away. The officer knows the person in the SUV and is attempting to contact him.
- Craig Presley said his vehicle had broken down and was parked on the square. He said he would remove the vehicle the following day.
- A traffic stop was performed at Elm Street and Lincoln Way, resulting in Bobby Lee Hunt being issued a citation for operation without registration.
- Freddie German said a stray cat entered his residence at 803 W. Washington St. through a cat door. The animal entered the living room and attacked his wife, inflicting scratches and cuts. German said the stray cat fled and remained at large. Officers searched the area but could not locate an animal matching the description given.
- A traffic stop was performed at Chestnut Street and Lincoln Way, resulting in Tyler Wayne Sherbert being issued a citation for operation with expired license.
- Melissa Smith spoke to an officer concerning a civil issue occurring over a vehicle. She said she made arrangements to sell a vehicle to a family member, but the member will neither pay her nor return the vehicle. The officer could offer her no assistance.
- Cody Todd reported receiving unwanted text messages from a male in Jefferson. The officer is attempting to speak to the texting male and advise him either to end the contact or possibly face criminal charges.
- The Union Pacific Railroad requested an officer check for a male on the tracks near the Grimmell Road Crossing. The officer was unable to locate the male.
*A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
